QATAR: Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani affirmed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that his country is committed to its role as a mediator in the Gaza ceasefire talks, along with Egypt and the United States, Reuters reports quoting the Qatari foreign ministry.
Qatar will continue efforts and communication to end the war, the ministry said in a statement.
US Senator Bernie Sanders received applause and cheers from the audience as he demanded an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza during a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Al Jazeera reports.
“We must end this horrific war in Gaza,” Sanders said on the second night of the convention. “Bring home the hostages and demand an immediate ceasefire.”
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said he spoke with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza and said that the US and UK are “working in lockstep to bring all parties to an agreement”, Al Jazeera reports. “An immediate end to the fighting in Gaza and the release of all hostages is vital,” he added in a post on X.
