Shehzad Roy meets NA Speaker Asad Qaiser to discuss Child Protection Bill

LAHORE : The NA bill calling to outlaw child abuse has not been tabled in the National Assembly for the past 15 months. Zindagi Trust Chairman Shehzad Roy called on Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser on Friday to get the bill included in the agenda.

It is not possible to stop violence against children without the required legislation and the issue will persist so long as legislators turn a blind eye.

In 2019, at the request of Zindagi Trust, the Islamabad High Court had declared violence against children separate from Section 89 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari and Mehnaz Akbar Aziz introduced a bill in the National Assembly to amend the Pakistan Penal Code but even after fifteen months, it is yet to be passed.

Zindagi Trust Chairman Shehzad Roy called on Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and apprised him of the delay in legislation. The Speaker assured to include the bill in the agenda as soon as possible.
