The United Nations has warned that the socio-economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Southeast Asia could reverse decades of poverty reduction in the region.

The UN policy brief said that the crisis threatens to destroy the livelihoods of 218 million informal workers in the region.

The report further says that without alternative income, formal social protection systems or savings, workers and their families will be pushed into poverty.
